Buses, Light Rail and the 16th Street Mall ShuttleGo to www.rtd-denver.com for schedules and routes for buses and light rail. The 16th Street Mall Shuttle buses run up and down the 16th Street Mall every 90 seconds to 2 minutes (shuttles run more frequently during rush hours and lunch) and is free. There's also information on SkyRide buses that run from the airport into downtown. AmtrakAmtrak's California Zephyr comes into Denver. Catch it from the West Coast, or make connections in Chicago. See Amtrak for details. Take Me Out to the Ball GameGood news---the National League Champion Colorado Rockies will be in town during and after Denvention 3.
The fan block of tickets for Wednesday, August 6 has sold out. The fan block is in the Pavillion, so buy tickets in that area if you'd like to attend the game with other Denvention members. The park also has its own brewpub, called Rounders, inside.) Let us know if you're interested, we may be able to add more tickets to the group purchase. Got Books? The Tattered Cover Book StoreOne of our favorite places in downtown Denver is the Tattered Cover Book Store. It's one of the largest independent bookstores in the US and is a Denver landmark. It opened in 1971 and was purchased by Joyce Meskis, its current owner, in 1974. There are actually three stores: one in Lower Downtown (about a 3-minute shuttle ride from the Convention Center), one in Highlands Ranch (in the southwest suburbs) and the main store on Colfax Avenue (accessible by bus or car, about 15 minutes from downtown). The three stores host signing sessions and readings on a regular basis. The knowledgeable, friendly staff will help you find a book or will special order anything you want. Each bookstore has a coffee counter with sandwiches and snacks and plenty of comfortable chairs for reading. In January, CNN.com published an article that asked the question, “When is a bookstore worth a tourist’s time?” We are happy to report that the Tattered Cover Book Store at 1628 16th Street, Denver was one of the nine noteworthy US bookstores listed in the article. Located on the 16th Street Mall, a mile-long outdoor pedestrian mall running through the heart of LoDo — historic Lower Denver — the Tattered Cover is a cozy destination with a distinct personality that makes you feel part of the Denver community.
